Spain Extends Morocco Border Closure Until March 30 Amid Health Concerns

The Spanish Ministry of the Interior has just extended for one month, until March 30, 2022, the closure of the border with Morocco due to the health crisis.
As at the end of each month for almost two years, the Minister of the Interior, Fernando Grande-Marlaska, took this Saturday a decree to extend until March 30, the closure of the borders with Morocco. The document, published in the Official State Gazette (BOE), obliges travelers from third countries to present a vaccination certificate and a negative PCR test dated 72 hours for minors aged 12 to 18, reports Ceuta al dia.

Morocco unilaterally closed its borders with Spain on March 13, 2020 to limit the spread of Covid-19 on its territory. A few days later, the Spanish authorities adopted the same measure for the same reasons. Since then, for almost two years, the borders have remained closed, with no prospect of reopening.
Beyond the health crisis, the diplomatic crisis between the two countries, with the Sahara issue in the background, is not conducive to the reopening of the borders.
