Spain Begins Reverse Gas Flow to Morocco Through Maghreb-Europe Pipeline

Spain has started exporting gas to Morocco via the Maghreb-Europe (GME) pipeline in the reverse direction. The first deliveries were made on Tuesday.
A methane carrier purchased by Morocco on the international market arrived on Sunday at one of the Spanish regasification plants, which allowed the launch on Monday of the export of gas to Morocco via the Maghreb-Europe pipeline in the reverse direction, which was received on Tuesday.

According to Enagas, the quantity of gas exported is very low. Only two small ships were unloaded on Sunday in the regasification plants of Huelva (28,000 cubic meters) and Cartagena (34,000 cubic meters), the Spanish company specifies. Spanish government sources have confirmed these data to El Periódico de la Energía. This quantity of gas can only produce about 55 MWh of energy, explains the same source.
The gas sent to Morocco does not come from Algeria, assure sources from the Spanish Ministry of Ecological Transition and the Demographic Challenge, specifying that a certificate will be issued to reassure Algeria that not a single molecule of its gas will go to Morocco and that the interconnection will operate according to EU rules.
To recall, Algeria broke off its diplomatic relations with Morocco in August and closed in October the Maghreb-Europe pipeline linking it to Spain.
