Spain to Begin Reverse Flow LNG Exports to Morocco via Maghreb Pipeline

Spain is preparing to transport liquefied natural gas (LNG) to Morocco via the GME, purchased on international markets, in accordance with the agreements signed between the two countries. The operations could start in the next few days.
According to the newspaper La Vanguardia, "Morocco has already prepared everything for Spain to send gas through the Maghreb Europe pipeline, which will soon operate in the opposite direction: from north to south. This could happen in the next two weeks."
This commitment made within the framework of the diplomatic rapprochement between the two countries will become effective, the newspaper pointed out, recalling that in early February, the Spanish government announced that it would help Morocco "guarantee its energy security" by allowing it to transport gas through the Pipeline, which Algeria has no longer supplied since October 2021.
The Moroccan facilities are ready. "The compression stations have been adapted. This technical work was done quietly before Morocco and Spain announced their reconciliation, in March," the same source said. "In a nutshell, the shipment of gas from Spain to Morocco is part of the package of measures for the resumption of relations between the two countries," it is written.
