Soufiane El Karouani responds to Walid Regragui’s non-selection
"I put that aside and move forward." Souffian El Karouani has chosen resilience over bitterness to digest his non-selection for the Africa Cup of Nations. The defender refuses the status of victim and assures that his mental recovery will be rapid, preferring to let his performances on the field speak for him in the future.
This willingness to turn the page does not erase the observation of a communication breakdown with the technical staff. The player reveals that he received no justification from Walid Regragui regarding his absence from the final list, a situation of radio silence that has persisted since his previous non-selection. "I had no contact on this subject," he confides, while maintaining that he legitimately believed he had his place in the group.
The door closed mechanically with the emergence of Anass Salah-Eddine. The PSV Eindhoven full-back, qualified by FIFA last October to represent Morocco, has shaken up the hierarchy by playing his first minutes during the November friendlies. This new competition has sealed El Karouani’s fate for the home tournament, without the verdict being personally notified to him.
