Socialite's Deadly Revenge: Italian Businesswoman Faces Life Sentence for Running Over Bag Thief

The trial of the famous businesswoman who took revenge on her Moroccan aggressor who stole her bag by running him over and crushing him several times will soon open before the Assizes Court of Lucca.

The authorities of the Assizes Court of Lucca have set September 24 as the opening date of the trial of Cinzia Dal Pino, 65, accused of aggravated voluntary manslaughter. Under house arrest for 10 months, the famous businesswoman is also accused of cruelty, deceptive methods, and having killed the Moroccan Nourdine Naziki Mezgoui, 52, while he was unable to defend himself. The request of her lawyer Enrico Marzaduri to reduce the charge to self-defense or involuntary manslaughter has been rejected by the court. The sexagenarian risks life imprisonment if she is found guilty.

The facts that unfolded for Cinzia Dal Pino go back to September 2024. In a shocking surveillance video broadcast by the local media, we see a Moroccan national Nourdine Naziki, 52, passing in front of a store when the vehicle (a Mercedes SUV) of the businesswoman Cinzia Dal Pino, 65, suddenly appears and hits him at full speed. The car then reverses and goes forward four times before Dal Pino - wearing high-heeled shoes - is seen calmly getting out of her car, picking up her bag and walking away. Alerted, the ambulance crew arrives at the scene. Naziki was rushed to the hospital, but he succumbed to his injuries. Dal Pino, a well-known socialite in the Italian coastal town of Viareggio, had just taken justice into her own hands. A few minutes earlier, the Moroccan had stolen her bag through the open window of her car.

Her lawyer had challenged the video broadcast by the local press and defended his client: "According to the autopsy, I understand that it was certainly the initial impact that proved fatal and that there are no tire marks on the body. [...] She just wanted to stop him and aimed at his legs. She suffers from what she has done and feels remorse for what happened." But the scene had shocked the local archbishop, Monsignor Paolo Giulietti: "In addition to self-defense, the video shows an astonishing behavior." "How can one run over a person’s body several times with one’s car? How can one think that a calm and esteemed woman, a competent entrepreneur, could carry out such an action?" questioned the religious dignitary.

On Facebook, Italian Deputy Prime Minister Matteo Salvini had reacted to this tragedy. "This drama is the consequence of a crime. If the man who lost his life had not been a delinquent, this would not have happened," he had written. For its part, Naziki’s family expresses its incomprehension. "Even an animal was not killed the way our brother was. We demand that the woman be sent back to prison. [...] He was a good man and we want justice to be done. Everyone who knew him will tell you that. She ran him over four times and calmly fled while he was dying, without even asking for help," they had said in an interview, demanding "justice" for the victim.
