Sex Trade Exposed: Documentary Reveals Dark Side of French Colonial Empire

France 3 is broadcasting on Monday, October 4 at 9:05 pm, a new documentary entitled "Colonization, a French History". It is an incursion into the colonial empire to bring out the shadows related to the sex trade both in Morocco and Algeria.
"Colonization, a French History" is a documentary directed by Hugues Nancy. A real investigation that traces the place that depravity and others had in the colonial empire. In Morocco, the director mentions the Bousbir district in Casablanca, which was a major center of prostitution. This fortress would have been born from "the will of the authorities to fight against the spread of venereal diseases". Inside the fortress, we find "sex workers" made available to the Whites. They only went out once a week, reports huffingtonpost.fr.
"To occupy and run these territories, we need to bring in men, military or administrators. And we use this sordid engine of access to certain advantages, including sexual exoticism within reach," confides the director. "As if it was absolutely necessary to dominate the bodies to show that we dominate the country," he specifies.
To make his documentary, Hugues Nancy relied on the work of historians including Marc Ferro or Pascal Blanchard. He stated that a district like the one in Casablanca was built in all the colonial capitals.
"Colonization, a French History" tells the story of the colonial occupation from the point of view of the colonizers and the colonized. It’s this Monday on France 3.
