Serial Killer "Bluebeard of Essonne" Featured in French Crime Documentary

This Sunday, November 14, 2021, the program "Faites entrer l’accusé" will be devoted to one of the most sensational news stories in Essonne. On May 22, 2014, Jamel Leulmi was sentenced to 30 years in prison for the murder of his wife and for attempting to kill a second partner.

Next Sunday on RMC Story, the defendant who will enter the dock is named Jamel Leulmi. His troubles began in 2010, when one of his partners, Julie Derouette, filed a complaint with the gendarmerie for a burglary at her home. Four copies of death insurance contracts were stolen during this rather surprising burglary. She stated that her suspicions were directed at Jamel Leulmi, nicknamed the "Bluebeard of Essonne".

It is he who will be convicted four years after this burglary to 30 years of criminal imprisonment, for having murdered his wife and attempted to kill a second partner. A murder and an attempted murder motivated by the aim of cashing in the death insurance policies, taken out by these women in his name, recalls femmeactuelle.fr.

"He showered me with gifts, took me to restaurants, spoiled my daughters. He told me he loved me, that he wanted to marry me." Julie presents her former partner as a seasoned seducer and manipulator, a man ready to do anything to get what he wants. She confides that he used cunning and schemes to captivate her heart. The mother did not hesitate to accept that their relationship take a more serious turn. Quickly, they became engaged and planned to get married in Morocco and Algeria, the countries of origin of Jamel’s parents.

This is how taking out life insurance became a necessity. "He told me that to get the visa for Algeria, I needed disability and death insurance. He took me to three meetings with insurers and I also took out two contracts online. I trusted him, I was in love, I signed." Juliette signed without asking questions, contracts for an amount of 7 million euros.

While she was looking forward to marrying Jamel, Juliette was the victim of a car accident. Left for dead on the side of the road, she will recover with a broken spine. The hardest part, she will discover throughout her convalescence. She only had one visit from the man she was about to marry. She begins to question her fiancé’s responsibility in this accident. The burglary finishes convincing her.

After her complaint, the investigators, in the course of their investigations, will discover that Jamel Leulmi is a widower and that three months after their marriage, his first wife died three years earlier... in a car accident. Damning fact, she too had taken out several insurance contracts before her death to the benefit of Jamel Leulmi. And in the event of accidental death, the beneficiary will receive the planned amount twice.

All these facts led to the conviction of Jamel Leulmi. He was found guilty of the murder of his ex-wife, Kathlyn Vasseur, in 2007. In addition to Juliette who narrowly escaped, a third woman slipped through his fingers. This is Karine T., whom he had met in a swingers club, and who had also taken out death insurance policies for an amount of 3 million euros, even though she cannot read or write.
