Seine-et-Marne Mosque Expansion Begins: 4-Year Project Funded by Local Community

The extension work on the mosque of Dammarie-lès-Lys (Seine-et-Marne) was launched on March 23 and should, according to the schedule, be completed in 4 years.
With a total cost of 1,400,000 €, the project is entirely financed by the faithful and will consist of creating new infrastructure to expand the capacity of this mosque which can no longer accommodate the thousands of faithful during holiday periods, says Abdeldjebbar Maldji, vice-president of the mosque.
"We do not want to be hostages of a nation, whether it be Algeria, Qatar or Morocco," insists the official, affirming to work "only with the Departmental Council of the Muslim Cult of Seine-et-Marne."
Ultimately, two new halls reserved for worship, of 300 m² each, will be created. They will reinforce the entire worship space which is 400 m². "One of them will be for men, on the ground floor, and the other, upstairs, will be reserved for women," specifies the vice-president.
In addition, the parking lot will be expanded and a garden will be laid out. The mosque will remain open during its usual hours throughout the construction work, while the month of Ramadan began on April 2.
