Ryanair Sells Flights During Airport Closure, Leaving Passengers in Limbo

Ryanair has sold tickets departing from Dole-Jura airport, to Morocco, while the airport will be under construction between May 26 and July 11. Passengers are wondering if they will be able to travel.

Cédric booked a flight to Marrakech from Dole airport with Ryanair about six months ago, from June 20 to July 1. The airline is asking him to wait for the official confirmation from the airport. Despite this uncertainty, the Irish low-cost carrier continues to sell tickets on its website for the closure period, reports BFMTV.

Like Cédric, many passengers are "in doubt". "We don’t know if we’re going to leave or be refunded." For its part, the management of Dole airport ensures that it has done the necessary. "We did our job, we warned everyone. Ryanair is on the case. Passengers need to contact the company. It is obliged to offer them something since they have sold the tickets," explains Jean-Jacques Berto, director of Dole-Jura airport to France 3 Franche Comté.

In any case, passengers will be reimbursed for the inconvenience caused in the event of flight changes or cancellations, indicates a jurist. What about hotel bookings and activities on site? "In theory, air carriers are not responsible for what happens behind the scenes. But in this particular case, it is possible to hold the civil liability of the carrier," estimates another jurist.
