Ryanair’s Morocco Expansion Overshadowed by Massive Spanish Flight Cuts
The Irish low-cost carrier Ryanair has opened new bases in Morocco. The company also plans to cut an additional 1.2 million seats to Spain next year.
Ryanair plans to add up to 600,000 seats to other major airports such as Madrid. The company has opened new bases in Marrakech, Fez, Agadir and Tangier. Last week, it announced that it would cancel up to 1,800 flights, including some to Morocco, during the period from October 7 to 9, 2025.
In addition, the Irish low-cost carrier plans to cut an additional 1.2 million seats to Spain next summer. For now, it has not yet specified the Spanish airports concerned. Last month, the company announced that it would cancel all flights to three popular Spanish airports. These are the airports of Tenerife North, Vigo and Santiago. Two million passengers were affected by these cancellations.
Ryanair has also threatened to cut all services to Santiago de Compostela - popular with hikers doing the Camino de Santiago pilgrimage - and to Asturias. The cancellation of Spanish flights is due to a disagreement over current airport fees, according to The SUN.
