Royal Air Maroc Pilots Express Concern Over Airline’s Crisis Recovery Plan

After studying the company’s crisis exit plan Royal Air Maroc (RAM), the captains and airline pilots are concerned about its repercussions.
In a statement dated July 20, 2020, the Moroccan Association of Airline Pilots (AMPL) reported the repercussions that the crisis exit plan would have at the economic and social level. However, the captains and airline pilots say they are "aware of the impact of the current crisis" on Royal Air Maroc (RAM).
The health crisis related to the coronavirus has had a negative impact on the airline. RAM has recorded huge losses (100 million dirhams per day) after the suspension of air and sea links to and from Morocco.
In early July, a works council took several measures, including reducing the fleet, selling certain aircraft, eliminating several routes and stopovers, reducing staff (dismissal of 858 employees, all categories combined). Other measures: the closure of certain representations and the implementation of a voluntary departure plan for employees aged over 57 with 15 years of seniority.
While the International Air Transport Association announces the normal resumption of air traffic in 2023, the AMPL wonders if the sale of part of RAM’s tools and the wave of layoffs are necessary for the airline.
