Royal Air Maroc to Cut Jobs Amid Global Aviation Crisis

Several jobs will be cut at Royal Air Maroc, hit hard by the covid-19 crisis. Speaking to the members of the House of Representatives, the Minister of Tourism confirmed this information on Monday.
The Minister of Tourism, Nadia Fettah Alaoui, while relying on the report of the International Air Transport Association (IATA), presented the critical situation of the airline company during the weekly session of oral questions in Parliament.
In her presentation, the member of the government recalled the loss of revenue for airlines worldwide, which should amount to $252 billion in 2020 and a 30% decline in the capacity of the aviation industry.
Continuing her explanations, she argues that the IATA report forecasts a drop in air traffic of around 5 million passengers for Morocco. According to her, this drop should result in financial losses and job cuts.
For Nadia Fettah Alaoui, meetings have been organized with the RAM management to explore the scenarios for a "gradual resumption" of activity. Even though she acknowledges and supports the "austerity measures" announced by RAM management, the minister announces that the company should take six to nine months to return to its normal level of activity. She also promises that a recovery plan will be available very soon.
