La Roche-sur-Yon’s Great Mosque Expands to Accommodate Growing Muslim Community During Ramadan

Faced with the ever-increasing number of worshippers during Ramadan, expansion work on the Great Mosque of La Roche-sur-Yon has been undertaken by the Vendée Maghreb association, chaired by the Moroccan Khalid Ammine.
After an investment of 107,500 euros to renovate and expand the prayer hall (300 m2) which received up to 800 worshippers until 2018 and the construction of a 100 m2 mezzanine for women, it became necessary to expand the Great Mosque of La Roche-sur-Yon built in 2011, as the number of believers has since increased from 1,200 to 1,500.
It is planned to build a building - in the extension of the reception hall - whose work was launched at the end of 2022, a prayer hall and an ablution area on 300 m2., reports Le Journal du Pays Yonnais. An elevator to serve the 300 m2 floor where there will be offices and reception areas. Already a sum of 450,000 euros invested.
While waiting for the end of the construction site, which remains to be determined, Khalid Ammine is focusing on Eid al-Fitr, the end of Ramadan scheduled for Friday, April 21. According to Imam Abdel Hak, the treasurer of the Vendée Maghreb association, more than 1,500 people are expected at the mosque for the prayer. "A joyful celebration before getting together with the family," he says.
