Renowned Moroccan Journalist and Human Rights Activist Mustapha Iznasni Dies at 80

Journalist and human rights activist Mustapha Iznasni died on Sunday in Rabat at the age of 80, the National Human Rights Council (CNDH) announced on Monday.
Born in Tetouan in 1939, a seasoned CNDH activist, Mustapha Iznasni held a degree in Social Sciences from the University of Sofia in Bulgaria. A journalist for over fifty years, he was editor-in-chief of the newspaper "Al Kifah Al Watani" from 1965 to 1967, then editor at the daily "Al Alam". He also held the positions of editorial secretary at the Maghreb Arab Press Agency (MAP) from 1970 to 1971, as well as press attaché and chargé d’affaires at the Moroccan Embassy in Nouakchott in 1975.
A former member of the National Union of the Moroccan Press (SNPM), Iznasni was also a former member of the national office of the Union of Moroccan Writers (UEM), as well as a founding member of the Moroccan Organization for Human Rights (OMDH).
An iconic figure in journalism and the struggle for human rights, his funeral was held on Monday after the Al Asr prayer at the Chouhada cemetery in Rabat.
