Rennes Plans Major Mosque Project: 4,000-Capacity Islamic Center Set for 2024 Construction

The Espoir Amal association is carrying a mosque project intended to accommodate up to 4,000 people in Rennes. This project, which will not start before 2024, should see the light of day on a 3,000 m² plot graciously offered by the municipality.
A meeting between the town hall of Rennes and the Espoir Amal association took place this week to discuss the progress of this Islamic cultural and religious center project, reports the newspaper Ouest France. "We are in the process of settling the formalities. We hope to have all the necessary administrative authorizations by the end of 2023 in order to be able to start the work," declares Mohamed Zaidouni, vice-president of the association. The total cost of the project is five million euros, a sum of which a part has already been collected thanks to a fundraising campaign that has raised more than 200,000 € in donations.
The future cultural and religious center will consist of two distinct buildings, one dedicated to worship, the other to administrative and cultural activities. As Mohamed Zaïdouni indicates, the place will be "vast and luminous, evoking both Andalusian Islam and our Breton culture. It will be a welcoming space, both for the faithful and for non-Muslims."
The building will house various spaces, including a ground floor reserved for men, a first floor for women, and another building dedicated to cultural activities. The latter will include a large conference room, a kitchen and a tea room, a reception office, a storage area, ten classrooms, a large library, a meeting room, two offices, a multimedia room, three equipped studios, a terrace and sanitary facilities.
