Record-Breaking Cannabis Seizure in Brussels: 11.5 Tons from Morocco, Suspects Still at Large

11.5 tons of cannabis resin from Morocco had been seized at the Brussels Morning Market (Mabru). Two months later, the alleged traffickers are still at large.
Last Friday, the Brussels council chamber ordered the continued house arrest, with an electronic bracelet, of Karim B., 40, one of the accused. The second, Khalid M., had been free to move around since June.
This drug seizure is the largest recorded in the Belgian capital in the last 20 years. It is therefore surprising, according to the newspaper la Dernière heure, that two months after this record seizure, the two suspects are still at large.
With an estimated market value of 115 million euros, the drugs seized in a truck supposed to be transporting potatoes, near the market and not inside, came from Morocco, says Sevket Temiz, the president of Mabru, adding that the truck had left the port of Casablanca for that of Antwerp.
In total, six suspects were arrested in Brussels, four of whom were released the next day for lack of sufficient evidence.
The investigation had revealed that the two remaining suspects had regular telephone exchanges in which they used coded language. But two months after their arrest, they are not subject to any conviction.
