Radicalized Suspect Arrested in France After Darknet Weapon Purchase

The profile of Brahim K., a radicalized young Moroccan-Tunisian, worries the French investigators. He will be arrested on September 7, the eve of the trial of the November 13, 2015 attacks.
His arrest follows the order of a Kalashnikov and six magazines on the darknet. A cryptocurrency purchase for the equivalent of 2,000 euros. After detecting Brahim’s order, US Customs alerted its French counterpart, the National Directorate of Intelligence and Customs Investigations (DNRED). In early September, the police from the anti-terrorist section of the criminal brigade arrested the young man in his family apartment in La Courneuve (Seine-Saint-Denis), reports Le Journal du Dimanche. During his custody, Brahim K. admitted to having bought a Zastava, the Serbian version of the Kalashnikov assault rifle and more than 300 rounds of ammunition. It is difficult to know the intentions of the accused.
This 27-year-old man is known to the justice system. Classified as a security threat, he was involved in several cases: driving without a license, receiving and burglary. Investigators discovered that this man described as a loner had tried to go to Syria in 2017. Subsequently, they learn that Brahim has ties to a radicalized Chechen living in Belgium, following a report received by the Directorate General of Internal Security (DGSI) from the Belgian services. The National Anti-Terrorism Prosecutor’s Office (Pnat) then opens a judicial investigation.
