Radicalized Belgian-Moroccan Suspect in Police Officer Murder to Face Trial Next Month

Yassine Mahi, the radicalized Belgian-Moroccan arrested for killing a police officer in Schaerbeek, will not know his fate before the end of the year. The Brussels council chamber has decided to extend his detention for at least one more month.
Yassine M. is being prosecuted for murder and attempted murder in a terrorist context. On November 10, he had attacked a police patrol from the Brussels-North zone, which was stopped at a red light on Rue d’Aerschot in Schaerbeek.
The man stabbed the driver in the neck, before attacking the passenger. The first, Thomas Monjoie, aged 29, succumbed to his injuries, while the other, Jason P., was able to be treated before leaving the hospital a few days later.
Before this act, the defendant had gone to a police station in his municipality. He declared there that he felt hatred towards the police and asked to be taken care of psychologically.
Already known to the police for common law offenses, the accused was arrested and placed under arrest warrant. After his hearing last week, the court decided to extend his detention for one month.
