Rabat Residents Protest Sudden Home Demolitions During Ramadan

The demolitions in the Al Mouhit (The Ocean) neighborhood in Rabat continue to cause a stir. The residents, whose houses and businesses have been destroyed, apparently without prior notice and fair and prior compensation, cry out for injustice and denounce what they consider a social drama.
The affected residents found themselves homeless and without shelter overnight, at the beginning of the month of Ramadan. These residents, some of whom have spent their entire lives in this neighborhood, are powerlessly witnessing the demolition of their homes. A situation that plunges these already vulnerable families into insecurity and fear for the future, forcing them to look for new housing in a difficult economic context marked by widespread inflation, reports al3omk.
"These people have gotten nothing, where are they going to go? They will sit against the walls..." said a distraught elderly woman. One of the neighborhood residents did not hide her anger at this situation that particularly affects women and children: "They prevent us from living in peace. The tears of our mothers are an indelible shame on their forehead. Cursed be oppression. Will our childhood memories become mere ruins swept away by the past?"
The initiator of the hashtag "Don’t touch my neighborhood" (متقيش غربيتي), recounts a bit the history of this neighborhood.
