Prosecutors Seek Life Sentence for Thwarted 2015 Thalys Train Attack Gunman

The Special Assize Court has sought life imprisonment against the Moroccan shooter, Ayoub El Khazzani. Armed to the teeth, he was preparing to carry out a massacre on board the Amsterdam-Paris Thalys train in August 2015 before being overpowered by passengers.
As for the accomplices of the main accused, sentences ranging from 8 to 30 years in prison have been sought. They are accused of having helped Ayoub El Khazzani and Abdelhamid Abaaoud, the coordinator of this attack and the November 13 attacks in Paris, to reach Belgium from Syria.
More than 5 years after this failed carnage, the trial of the main defendant charged with "attempted murder in connection with a terrorist enterprise" opened on Monday, November 16 in Paris, before the special assize court. The verdict is expected tomorrow, Thursday, December 17.
