Prefecture Employee Fired, Sentenced in Île-de-France Residence Permit Fraud Scheme

A young woman was sentenced on Thursday, December 17, to one year in prison with probation, with a permanent ban on holding public office, in a case of fake documents. The civil servant’s friend and her boyfriend were sentenced to one year in prison with probation for aiding and abetting the irregular stay of a foreigner in an organized gang.

It is a case of fake documents, which allowed about fifteen undocumented immigrants to obtain a receipt for a residence permit application in France at the sub-prefecture of Torcy, in Île-de-France. While it takes two months to get an appointment at the foreigners’ office of the Torcy sub-prefecture, an undocumented immigrant had received, on March 14, 2019, at 8:47 am, an email from this service offering him an appointment for the same day at 10 am. The man had obtained a receipt for a residence permit application with fake documents. Enough for the border police to take an interest, reports Le Parisien.

"Passive corruption and aiding and abetting the irregular stay of a foreigner in an organized gang", this is what the judges of the Meaux criminal court retained against a 34-year-old mother, an employee of the foreigners’ office, the same source indicates.

"I just gave appointments in a shorter time than the usual two months," justified the main accused. She who had declared "having received 500 euros for this file" and that "for the others, she was waiting for money!", the magistrate reminds her. In addition, the young woman had admitted to giving "fast" appointments to about fifteen other undocumented immigrants, between December 1, 2018 and March 14, 2019. They had all obtained receipts thanks to fake documents.

The search of her locker revealed a small yellow notebook, with a list of names of foreigners who had obtained a residence permit receipt in record time. The accused was sentenced to one year in prison with probation, with a permanent ban on holding public office.
