Two Paris Police Officers Jailed in Alleged Racist Assault on Music Producer

The four police officers involved in the assault on producer Michel Zecler have been indicted. Two of them were remanded in custody while the other two were placed under judicial supervision.
The assailant police officers, while denying the racist insults, say they acted out of "panic", even though the assault was filmed and shared on social media. As for the racist insults, one of the young people present in the studio confirmed that the assailants had called the producer a "dirty nigger".
While the police revealed that they checked the producer for not wearing a mask and because of a "strong smell of cannabis", only 0.5 grams were later found in the studio.
The police officer who fired the tear gas was indicted for "intentional violence" against Michel Zecler and the nine young people who were in the basement of the studio. Three of the police officers are indicted for "intentional violence by a person holding public authority (PDAP)" and "forgery in public writing".
The debate on "global security" continues following the ban on filming police officers in the performance of their duties. While this measure pleases the police staff, it worries journalists and citizens who fear that the police will abuse their authority even more.
