Paris Grand Mosque Shifts to 1905 Law Compliance, Adapting to New French Regulations

The Great Mosque of Paris announced on Friday that it will now be governed by the 1905 law regime, in accordance with the new provisions imposed by the government.
Thus, the Great Mosque of Paris intends to comply with the so-called "separatism" law which pushes the management associations of places of worship to register in the new line drawn by the French authorities, indicates a press release from the institution.
To this end, it will adapt its statutes "by creating an association governed by the law of 1905" after its Annual General Meeting dealing in particular with "the modification of its associative statutes to comply with the law of August 24, 2021 strengthening the respect of the principles of the Republic".
Its rector, Chems-Eddine Hafiz, who announced in January the "total and definitive" withdrawal of his federation from all bodies of the French Council of the Muslim Faith (CFCM), has indicated his willingness to work "to assert the advantages of the law in favor of mosque associations and Muslims in France".
