US Overtakes France as Top Foreign Investor in Morocco, FDI Reaches 16.19 Billion Dirhams

As of the end of June 2022, Morocco has attracted a net flow of foreign direct investment of 16.19 billion dirhams. The United States has overtaken France and has become the leading country of origin of FDI to the kingdom.
With a net flow of 6.16 billion dirhams, the United States has outclassed France to become the leading country of origin of foreign direct investment to Morocco. In 2021, US FDI did not exceed 682 million dirhams, according to the Foreign Exchange Office. Dethroned, France ranks second with a flow of 3.78 billion dirhams in 2022 against 5.98 billion dirhams in 2021.
FDI from the United Kingdom and the United Arab Emirates, on the other hand, have fallen. They went from 3.98 billion dirhams in 2021 to 1.54 billion dirhams this year. With a flow of 673 million dirhams, the Netherlands occupies the 5th place. Compared to 2021, Dutch FDI has experienced a sharp decline. It was in the order of 1.67 billion dirhams.
These countries have invested in the chemical industry (to the tune of 6.07 billion dirhams), real estate activity (2.22 billion dirhams), trade, repair of motor vehicles and motorcycles (760 million dirhams), construction sectors (569 million dirhams of the overall FDI flow made in the first half), etc.
