Overloaded Vans Bound for Morocco Intercepted in France, 7 Tons Over Limit

The gendarmes of the Departmental Road Safety Squadron (EDSR) of Tarn-et-Garonne intercepted, on Friday, December 4, two vehicles loaded to the brim on their way to Morocco.
The intervention took place on the A20, at the Caussade interchange, heading towards Montauban following a report from two motorists, reports La Dépêche. During a verification weighing, the gendarmes and escorted at the Montauban Nord toll booth realized that the two trucks were respectively in excess of 4.1 tons and 2.9 tons.
The vehicles were immobilized. The drivers had to pay fines (€630 and €360) and unload part of the cargo before resuming their journey on Saturday, heading for Morocco. These trucks, owned by two Moroccan transport companies, had loaded in Belgium and France.
"The vehicles are not designed to carry such weights. The tires can burst at any time, not to mention the lateral wind load," says the EDSR.
