Orly Airport Tests Facial Recognition for Morocco-Bound Flights

Orly airport has launched a new experiment exclusively for flights to Morocco. It involves testing facial recognition at boarding.
Since March 18, travelers no longer have to take out their plane tickets, identity documents, show their face to a camera to open the doors and go through the controls ultra-fast or wait for the flight attendant to check the documents and the machine to scan them. Orly airport is now testing facial recognition at boarding, reports Le Parisien. Flights to Morocco with the Transavia airline are, for the time being, the only ones concerned because they are not full. After two months, this new system will be extended to flights of more than 200 passengers of Air Caraïbes to the French overseas departments and territories.
Upon arrival at the airport, the passenger will follow a simpler route. Register your face at a dedicated terminal: remove your mask, glasses and hat, look at the small camera above the screen that takes a photo of your face; register your ID and plane ticket. This was the "longest" step. "In reality, it only takes a few tens of seconds," assures ADP.
It will no longer be necessary for any traveler to take out their ID. "At the baggage drop-off, the terminal will recognize the traveler’s face, who will only have to scan their baggage tag, place their suitcase on the belt and that’s it," assures ADP. The same scenario is repeated in the boarding lounge. "But I thought it would be more complex," admits a Transavia flight attendant who witnessed the initial tests. "The passengers spontaneously headed towards the terminal and it was very fast. There is a real time saving. They especially appreciate not having to take out their documents again and again to access the plane."
