L’Oreal to Remove ’Whitening’ Terms from Products Amid Anti-Racism Protests

Words like "white", "whitening" and "fair" will no longer be part of the terminology of the company L’Oreal. This is what the group has decided, for its products, following the demonstrations against racism.
White/whitening, fair/fairness... These different words often used on L’Oreal products to even out the skin are no longer appropriate. In a press release, the French cosmetics giant announced their withdrawal.
The group is not the first to have made this decision. Unilever’s Indian subsidiary had already decided to withdraw the "Fair & Lovely" group from the marketing of its skin lightening cream.
The anti-racist demonstrations, following the death of George Floyd in the United States, have put several companies under pressure. This is the case with Mars, which says it is considering evolving its famous Uncle Ben’s.
