Olympic Judo Champion Teddy Riner Suffers Ankle Injury, Repatriated from Morocco

Legendary world champion and reigning Olympic champion Teddy Riner, who was in a training camp in Rabat, was injured during a training session. The French judoka was urgently repatriated to France to receive the necessary care.
"Teddy Riner had been in a training camp in Rabat for a few days. On Wednesday, during a throw by Teddy, the partner fell back on his ankle, causing immediate pain," explain Laurent Winkler, the federal doctor, and Christophe Baudot, the PSG doctor, in a statement. According to the examinations carried out in Paris, the double Olympic champion suffers from "a sprained ankle that will require the use of a splint and crutches for three weeks."
The doctors assured that "the care will of course be administered daily, but the physical preparation is not interrupted." They stress that "Teddy’s preparation program for the World Championships is being revised but his participation is maintained."
At 33 years old, Teddy Riner is expected at the Judo World Championships to be held from October 6 to 13 in Tashkent. The French judoka has often chosen Morocco for his training camps, as was the case in 2021, in the context of the Olympic Games.
During his current shortened preparation stay, Teddy Riner visited the Étoile Sportive de Salé club where he met several judokas, including young people, to whom he provided advice and other tips to become true champions.
