OECD Study Ranks Morocco’s Education System Among Lowest in MENA Region

Morocco needs to improve its education system to be more competitive. A 2018 survey by the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) ranks the country among the last in the class.
Entitled the Program for International Student Assessment, and better known by the acronym PISA (Program for International Student Assessment), this ranking was done after a survey of 15-year-olds in OECD member countries, writes TelQuel.
For Morocco’s first participation in this study, the survey covered the skills of 6,814 students from 179 secondary institutions in reading comprehension, mathematics and science. The result is damning and makes the Kingdom the lazy student of the MENA region. Ranked 75th out of a list of 79 countries, Morocco is neck and neck with the Philippines, the Dominican Republic, Lebanon and Kosovo.
According to the survey, the results are edifying for the Moroccan education system, with 60% of students underperforming in the three subjects. In reading, the Moroccan national average is 359 points, 368 points in mathematics and 377 points in science.
