Nîmes Shopkeeper Apologizes for Banning Veiled Women, Citing Regret and Misunderstanding

A few hours after banning access to his store to veiled women, the manager of a grocery store in Nîmes now says he deeply regrets his act. Overwhelmed by threats, he gave his version of the facts, while apologizing.
The sign prohibiting access to the business to veiled persons was not intentional. "I made a very big mistake, I regret it and I am aware of it now," "but at the time I didn’t think about it," "I totally exceeded my thinking and above all what hurts me most in this affair, is that I did not want to offend or hurt anyone."
"(...) I did not want to attack veiled people, or a particular religion." (...) I regret and I apologize (...) I am devastated by what is happening following my remarks, by the flood of verbal violence that is falling on me and my family. I am psychologically dead," confesses the shopkeeper to Objectif Gard.
These words express all the remorse that inhabits this store manager the day after his act. He even had trouble speaking on the phone and even cried at times, the same source reveals.
Faced with the flood of hundreds of messages of hatred, violence and threats received, the shopkeeper had to file a complaint. The Nîmes public prosecutor’s office is currently conducting an investigation on this matter.
