Netherlands: Moroccan footballer jumps from window to escape burglars
Awakened by intruders in her Tilburg home, Iman Eljackson (Lhajoui), 21, jumped from a window to escape them. Seriously injured, the athlete is now denouncing the normalization of her assault amid police inaction.
On April 24, the home of this street football player of Moroccan origin, located in the Tilburg-North neighborhood, became a target. Her parents had gone to the mosque. Alone and asleep, the young woman is awakened by voices and heavy footsteps. Individuals are already inside.

All doors are locked with double locks. Suddenly, someone manipulates her bedroom door handle and shouts "Polizei!" Not knowing how the situation will end if the door gives way, she makes a radical decision. "I deliberately went through the window," explains the victim. She lands heavily on her feet. The medical assessment is serious: two broken heels and a crack in her back.
The athlete wanted to correct the account of her assault initially published in Algemeen Dagblad and Brabants Dagblad. The newspapers mentioned an accidental fall caused by surprise. For the young woman, this gesture is not a detail—it is a pure survival choice. She says she is deeply disappointed by the way law enforcement handled the case, who claim to lack evidence. One officer even asked her if simply walking down the street made him a suspect.
This violent intrusion is part of a climate of anxiety on Sibelius Street. Since March 20, several Muslim families have been targeted during prayers or Eid celebrations. At neighbor Bilal Chahid’s home, the door was forced, the house ransacked, and the word "Love" carved into his television. Surveillance footage actually shows the same group of men lurking in the area.

Faced with the lack of arrests, residents are taking matters into their own hands. They block their entrances, install doorbells with cameras, and organize patrols themselves. "It is not normal to have to flee your own home to be safe," the young woman protests.
