Netflix Launches 'Soil': Belgian-Moroccan Series Explores Muslim Burial Dilemma

Netflix has unveiled the new official trailer for the Belgian series Soil, directed by Belgian-Moroccans Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah. A series that talks about a dilemma facing the Moroccan community in Belgium.

Soil is a fictional drama series broadcast in Belgium on Vier. It is inspired by an idea by Zouzou Ben Chikha, Dries Heyneman and Wannes Capelle. The Belgian-Moroccans Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah are the directors and screenwriters. Netflix will launch this series in streaming in most countries starting in the spring of 2022, reports First Showing.

What about the synopsis? "When a Muslim dies in Belgium, his family finds itself faced with a dilemma: ’Should he be buried here or honor his last wishes and bring his body back to his homeland?’ Young Ishmael "Smile" Boulasmoum, who inherits his father’s repatriation company with his sister, finds an original solution: what if we brought Moroccan soil to bury our dead? By embarking on such an undertaking, they both unknowingly open a real "Pandora’s box"."

This dramatic series has 8 episodes. It is produced by Jan De Clercq (Lunanime, Lumière group).
