Netflix Cancels 'Standing Up' Despite Popularity in Morocco and Season 2 Plans

While season 2 of Standing Up (known as Drôle in France), a series that has been in the top 10 in Morocco, is in the works, Netflix has decided to cancel it.

Not season 2 of Standing Up. Oliver Joyard of the magazine Les Inrockuptibles has confirmed the cancellation by Netflix of the series, reports The United Business Journal. "I am obviously sad and disappointed that Netflix did not let the series settle in more, given the enthusiastic, affectionate reception and testimonies from the press and the public, full of young people we don’t know, who insisted on its freshness. There remains the pride of having done it with my team, of having enjoyed creating these characters who revealed four magnificent actors, Mariama Gueye, Jean Siuen, Younès Boucif and Elsa Guedj." A disappointment because the script was "two-thirds" completed and the technical and creative teams have all been released from their contracts.

Standing Up first arrived on Netflix on March 18. The creator of Call My Agent! who is behind this first good French series of the American company Fanny Herrero, said in an interview with Variety that she was already developing season 2 and talked about what we could have expected from this season. Unexpectedly, the adventure is over.

The reasons for Netflix’s decision would be linked to the fact that the series was unable to integrate the global top 10 TV (non-English). Standing Up spent 20 days in the Netflix France top 10 and 26 days in its TV top 10. Apart from Netflix France, the show only lasted one day in the top ten in Belgium, Luxembourg, South Korea and Morocco.
