Neo-Nazi convicted France Moroccan father arms trafficking

The paradox is striking. A young man born to a Japanese mother and a Moroccan father has been convicted in France in a neo-Nazi far-right case, linked to arms trafficking and violent action projects against several communities.

In total, six men were convicted Friday in Paris to sentences ranging from four to seven years in prison, according to information reported by France Info. Five of them, aged 22 to 25, were found guilty of terrorist criminal association.

Investigators suspected them of having prepared actions targeting several targets, including Muslims, Jews, LGBTQ+ persons and left-wing activists. Two former military personnel are also among the convicted.

The youngest defendant received the heaviest sentence: seven years in prison, with a two-thirds security period. According to the same source, he reaffirmed during his trial his rejection of mixed-race relationships, while claiming to have abandoned certain far-right ideas and to retain others.

A puzzling profile in a neo-Nazi case

This position was all the more striking to the audience as the convicted man himself comes from a dual family background, with a Japanese mother and a Moroccan father. His lawyer announced her intention to appeal the decision.

Another man, presented as one of the main actors in the arms trafficking, was also convicted to seven years in prison. A former military officer, he had mentioned during the hearing a childhood marked by Pétainism, antisemitism and Catholic traditionalism.

The sixth defendant, a retired police officer aged 61, was convicted solely for arms trafficking. The investigations did not establish that he was aware of the attack projects attributed to the group. He received five years in prison, of which 25 months suspended with probation, the custodial part to be served under electronic monitoring.

The three other defendants were convicted to sentences of up to four years of custodial imprisonment. An arrest warrant was also issued against one of them, absent at the time of judgment.
