Narco-Drones Surge in Drug Trafficking Between Morocco and Spanish Enclave Ceuta

After the interception of narco-drones and the dismantling of a network specialized in international drug trafficking "by air" a month ago, the authorities of Ceuta were certain that they had finished with this channel. Error, the activity is still in full swing throughout the region.

This traffic is growing, says the daily El Faro de Ceuta of the enclave, stressing that the drones that are still used for criminal actions represent faster means used for the hashish traffic from the kingdom to Ceuta and pills and all types of drugs from the enclave to Morocco. This is the finding of the traffickers following the closure a year ago of the Tarajal and Bab Sebta border posts, thus making the enclave and the bordering regions of the kingdom open passages for all kinds of drugs.

In recent weeks, an increase in drone movement has been noticed, with the fall of several that are located, but without information on the fate of their cargo. This situation bothers several inhabitants of the city who complain of spending "several nights without sleeping because from 8 p.m. the back and forth of the narco-drones begins". Thus, last Tuesday, one of the drones coming from Morocco failed in an area near the Reina neighborhoods, with a bag full of drugs, offering a golden opportunity to young consumers who did not hesitate to seize the device and its cargo to help themselves.

The Operation Rond-Hornet launched in September 2020 led to the seizure of 4 semi-industrial drones capable of transporting between 4 and 25 kilograms, and 3 other commercial drones, used by the trafficking network for the transport of drugs between Morocco and Ceuta.
