Muslim Women Denied Flea Market Registration Due to Hijabs in Northern France

Monday 29 April 2019, by Bladi.net

Two Muslim women were unable to register because of their veil last Saturday in Croix, in northern France. A discrimination they do not intend to let pass.

Another case of discrimination whose video continues to upset the web. Two Muslim women who had gone to the town hall of Wasquehal (59), to register for the May 1st flea market in Croix, a commune southeast of Roubaix, had to face the refusal of the flea market manager.

"I’m not going to take you, ladies, you don’t have to queue, you’re wasting your time. I’d rather not (register you), it causes me harm," Myriam Cattoire had told the two veiled women.

The video of this discrimination suffered by these two women is buzzing on social networks since Saturday. Indeed, this video exchange filmed by the two victims has already had more than "300,000 views on Facebook and Twitter and has been retweeted more than 10,000 times," reports Le Muslim Post.

In an interview with France Info and La Voix du Nord, Myriam Cattoire said she regretted being "mean" and "hurting people". "It was the end of the morning and I was exhausted but that’s no excuse. I freaked out," she confesses in regret, without really apologizing. An attitude that has also shocked the two victims who, according to Le Muslim Post "would have decided to file a complaint for discrimination and to seize the Collective against Islamophobia in France (CCIF)".
