Muslim Woman to Sue French Far-Right Politician Over Veil Incident

Humiliated for her veil on October 11 by an elected member of the Rassemblement national (RN), Fatima has decided to take the matter to court.
According to the details provided by Sana Ben Hadj Younes, the lawyer for the young woman, "it is a complaint against the deputy for violence committed in a group by persons holding public authority on a minor and an adult with racial characteristics," filed with the Dijon prosecutor’s office.
In addition, "a second complaint will be filed with the Paris Prosecutor’s Office for ’incitement to hatred’," the lawyer emphasizes.
According to Fatima, who confided in Le Parisien, it was at the insistence of her son that she went to the outing organized that day by the community center where she lives. "He told me that all his friends were waiting for me to come, because it is true that I regularly participate in school outings," observes the mother.
While Julien Odoul had questioned the chairperson about Fatima’s presence, the latter rather responded with a smile, which is also confirmed by the images circulated on social networks. According to the mother, "it was not to taunt. I was smiling first at his stupidity."
Despite the support of some elected officials, she preferred to leave, especially when she saw her son "starting to crack." In the hallways, she will meet the former member of the Rassemblement national, Karine Champy. The latter "gestured a lot, she was on the verge of jostling me. Thinking about it, I’m sure she wanted to provoke me physically so that I would react," details Fatima, who says she is now "afraid of everything" because of all the trauma she experienced.
