The French Council of the Muslim Faith (CFCM) reacts to "the racist and anti-Muslim aggression suffered by a 42-year-old woman with a disability, wearing a veil and recently weakened by chemotherapy treatment." The Muslim organization also denounces the fact that some media and politicians "seem to have a variable indignation depending on the skin color, origin or religion of the victims."
In a press release, the French Council of the Muslim Faith (CFCM) "expresses its deep indignation at the racist and anti-Muslim aggression suffered by a 42-year-old woman with a disability, wearing a veil and recently weakened by chemotherapy treatment." The Muslim organization reports that "the aggression took place on Tuesday, December 3, 2024 in a LiDL store in Marignane, where the victim was brutalized and humiliated by a store manager. She tore off her veil, broke her phone and struck her in the face."
The victim is left with "a 5 cm wound (which) formed on the victim’s face, who was spitting blood on the arrival of the firefighters, the CFCM specifies. The doctor suspects an intracranial hemorrhage." After expressing its full support for the victim and addressing its most sincere wishes for a speedy recovery and courage in this traumatic ordeal, the Muslim organization "finds it shocking that LiDL has still not communicated on this aggression and has not announced any action against the aggressor." It then "invites any person who witnessed this aggression to testify in order to help shed light on what happened."
The CFCM deplores: "Given the initial information, it is totally incomprehensible that at this stage of the proceedings, the aggravating circumstances of the victim’s vulnerability and her religious affiliation are not taken into account by Justice. Unfortunately, we must once again note that some of our media and politicians seem to have a variable indignation depending on the skin color, origin or religion of the victims." For the Muslim organization, "this double standard is the antithesis of our Republican values, of which the equality of all and the equal respect for their dignity."
"After the trivialization of anti-Muslim speech, are we witnessing the trivialization of anti-Muslim violence?" wonders the CFCM, hammering that "the fight against attacks on the physical integrity of all our citizens and the respect for their equal dignity must be a priority for all." And to conclude: "This fight must begin first by putting an end to the promotion of hate preachers in our media, their conspiracy theories and their racist approach to society."
