Muslim Voters in France Backed Mélenchon Amid Limited Options, UDMF Leader Says

Nagib Azergui, founding president of the Union of French Muslim Democrats (UDMF), spoke about the first round of the presidential election in France. He reveals who the Muslims of France voted for and calls on them to "change their software in order to no longer reproduce the same patterns and above all the same mistakes".

"Between the candidates who had made Muslims a real campaign theme, promising their remigration, inviting them to renounce Islam, ordering them to wear Christian first names and the banning of any veil in the public space, the citizens of the Muslim faith had little choice but to vote for Mélenchon between the plague and the cholera," analyzes Nagib Azergui in an interview with LeMuslimPost. According to him, this first round of the French presidential election left a bitter taste among them and all those who cast their vote for the candidate of La France Insoumise "in the hope of putting an end to this quinquennium of shame which will have legalized the destruction of our freedoms, the organized dissolution of Muslim organizations, through the stoning of our public services and that of our social gains".

"They made the choice of reason by voting for the lesser evil. There were many, preachers, imams, influencers who mobilized around the candidate of La France Insoumise and naturally, the disappointment was strong when the results were announced," notes the founding president of the UDMF, stressing that it is quite ironic, moreover, to see Muslims forced to campaign for the one who spits the least in their face, especially when the latter defends them and even promises to shorten the Separatism law. "And yet, things have not always been thus with this secularist, freemason, great friend of Laurence Rossignol, declaring only yesterday that the veil was a sign of submission and Islamophobia a freedom of expression," he continues.

"A large part of the Muslim electorate knows that politicians only come to court them during election periods and that once the games are done, contempt and oblivion remain the only reward," adds the political leader. For him, it is time for Muslims to "change their software in order to no longer reproduce the same patterns and above all the same mistakes". In this sense, the UDMF announces that it is preparing to participate in the next legislative elections. "[...] It is important that the Muslim community can seize this opportunity in order to play a role as a political opposition and in order to block the incendiary projects that the next elected President of the Republic would like to apply. With the UDMF, French Muslims will finally have the freedom and the certainty to vote, not for the least bad, but for the best," assures Nagib Azergui.
