Muslim Pro App Faces Lawsuit Over Alleged Data Sale to US Military

About ten French users have filed a complaint against Muslim Pro, accused of having sold personal data to the US military. The application is being prosecuted for "breach of trust, violation of personal rights, endangerment of others and complicity in assassination".
The purpose of the complaint is to find out "whether data has been transmitted and how it has been used. Nothing allows to exclude, [...], that data may not have been used to promote extrajudicial executions," reports RTL. The plaintiffs accuse the application of selling their personal data to the broker X-Mode without prior information. However, this is a legal obligation.
The file has been entrusted to lawyers Xavier Nogueras, William Bourdon and Vincent Brengarth. They have requested the opening of an investigation into elements "of certain gravity" which, "if established, clearly appear to be a textbook case of the instrumentalization that can be made of users’ personal data".
For its part, Muslim Pro claims to have canceled, as of November 17, its partnership contracts with all brokers including X-Mode, "with immediate effect". It has also launched an internal investigation. The application’s managers also indicate "currently working with the stakeholders and the relevant authorities to transparently establish the facts surrounding these allegations that cast an undeserved negative light on us and our community".
An investigation by the electronic media Motherboard revealed that Muslim Pro had sold its users’ data through one of its brokers to the US military. Revelations that are still causing controversy.
