Muslim Preacher Faces Deportation Threat Over Alleged Anti-French Rhetoric

Sunday 31 July 2022, by Sylvanus

Lucie Simon, lawyer for Hassan Iquioussen, denounces the Interior Minister’s desire to expel her client to Morocco, where his life could be "in danger" due to his political positions. Gérald Darmanin accused the Muslim dignitary of holding "for years a hateful discourse against the values of France".

"Hassan Iquioussen was born in northern France almost sixty years ago. His brothers, sisters and mother are French, as are his five children and fifteen grandchildren, none of whom have Moroccan nationality," recalls his lawyer, Lucie Simon, to La Voix du Nord, stressing that the remarks that the prefect of the North blames on her client "date in particular from a 2000 conference, and it is only 22 years later that Georges-François Leclerc and Gérald Darmanin have deemed it relevant to be alarmed."

"We recall that an expulsion order has not yet been notified to him and that it is the justice system that will ultimately decide on his removal." In the event that an expulsion order is notified to Hassan Iquioussen, Lucie Simon says she is ready to take legal action. She also warns about the consequences that a possible expulsion to Morocco could have. According to the lawyer, her client’s life could be "in danger" in Morocco because of his political positions.
