Muslim Leaders Urge Cancellation of Mawlid Celebrations After Nice Attack

Following the terrorist attack in Nice, the president of the French Council of the Muslim Faith (CFCM) has called on Muslims in France to postpone Mawlid festivities "as a sign of solidarity and mourning".
In a press statement, Mohammed Moussaoui firmly condemned the terrorist attack that took place on Thursday near the Basilica of Notre-Dame de Nice. "As a sign of mourning and solidarity with the victims and their loved ones, I call on Muslims in France to cancel all Mawlid festivities," added the CFCM president.
According to AFP, this knife attack left several injured and 3 dead, including a man and a woman killed inside the Notre-Dame church. The third victim succumbed to her injuries in a nearby bar where she had taken refuge.
As for the perpetrator, he was immediately apprehended by the police. The National Anti-Terrorist Prosecutor’s Office (PNAT) has been entrusted with the investigation, the same source specifies.
