Muslim Leaders Condemn Church Vandalism in Lyon, Call for Unity

The profanation and degradation of a church in Champagne-au-Mont-d’Or were strongly condemned by the Council of Mosques of the Rhône (CMR), which expressed its support and solidarity to the leaders and faithful of the church.
Headed by the rector of the Grand Mosque of Lyon, Kamel Kabtane, the CMR denounced a "heinous act of profanation in a place where the God of peace, mercy and love is invoked every day." The Muslim leader calls on the authorities to work to put an end to these acts whose purpose is "to create fear, hatred and division between religious communities."
"We recall the warm and fraternal climate that prevails among the believers of our region. It is this concord and this solidarity that the perpetrators of this heinous act have wanted to attack," reports Saphirnews.
Before the CMR, the Minister of the Interior, Gérald Darmanin, had expressed his support to the faithful of the church, before announcing the arrest of a suspect who would suffer from mental disorders, according to a psychiatric assessment.
