Muslim Groups Launch Emergency Plan for COVID-19 Burials in France

Faced with the impossibility of repatriating the bodies of Muslims who died from covid-19 from France to Morocco and other Maghreb countries, and the lack of space in the Muslim sections for their burial, the L.E.S Musulmans platform has launched the Janaza emergency plan. This is a "national mobilization for Muslim sections".
The "Janaza emergency plan" notably proposes a mapping of funeral homes and Muslim sections. Members and supporters of the L.E.S Musulmans platform are doing fieldwork to bring together on the same map the Muslim sections and funeral homes "that offer Islamic rites for the deceased", according to LeMuslimpost.
"There is an emergency. We have to mobilize together so that our dead can be buried with dignity in France," tweets the platform. The collective also counts on the mobilization of elected officials. In this sense, it has "made an official request for the provision of Muslim sections everywhere where necessary, throughout the national territory, so that Muslim citizens can also be buried with dignity, according to their wishes".
Similarly, the platform proposes the creation of Muslim sections where they do not exist. Where they exist, it advocates an increase in the number of available spaces. In order to make this initiative a success, the L.E.S. Musulmans platform calls on its supporters to "massively relay this request, directly to [their] elected officials (mayors and prefects) in order to raise awareness on this issue of paramount importance and to respond to the dramatic situation experienced by the families of the deceased".
