Muslim Community Feels Targeted by French Anti-Extremism Bill, Lawmaker Says

The PCF deputy Elsa Faucillon affirms that the Muslim community is stigmatized through the draft law "strengthening the republican principles" aimed at fighting radical Islam.
"This law misses the target. The law, it is announced as a law to fight against terrorism, radical Islam. But when you look at what’s in it, it’s quite difficult to see exactly how it will allow us to fight obscurantism because it works a lot through prohibitions," she denounced on LCI.
"Muslims are trying to live their faith in secularism, in respect of the Republic. They can’t stand it anymore because they are constantly suffering from these confusions that are created around their religion," added the elected official, stressing that the affirmation of republican principles is also a deployment of the Republic that allows everyone to be respected.
Presented to the Council of Ministers on December 9, 2020, the draft law "strengthening the republican principles" is raising fierce controversy.
