Morocco Weighs Legalizing Medical Cannabis Amid Global Market Boom

Morocco has adhered to all the international conventions on narcotics, authorizing their use for legitimate purposes, particularly in the medical field. Currently, the debate on the legalization or not of the use of cannabis is raging, estimating that such a project risks dealing a serious blow to the security of citizens.
Those who advocate the legalization of the use of cannabis for medical purposes do not lack arguments. The global medical cannabis market is booming. The average annual growth forecasts are 30% globally and 60% at the European level. They also argue that many countries have legalized medical, and even recreational, cannabis. There is Canada, Australia, Spain, Portugal, Italy, Switzerland, the Netherlands, Poland, Sweden, the Czech Republic, Denmark, Croatia, Greece, Cyprus, Brazil, Honduras, Chile, Colombia, Peru, Uruguay, India, China, Lebanon, Malawi, Zimbabwe, Zambia, South Africa, Lesotho, Ghana, reports the MAP.
Morocco, better than other countries, has real assets for the development of medical, cosmetic and industrial cannabis. The soil and climate are favorable, there is proximity to the European market, currently booming. There is also the ancestral know-how of traditional farmers, etc. The defenders of the legalization of cannabis think that Morocco must seize these opportunities and get in step with the times, given the strong current trend of legalization of medical and recreational cannabis in the world in general and in Europe in particular.
But first it will be necessary to go through the installation of a processing industry and then promote the development of a national industrial sector. This will make it possible to get out of the vicious circle of traffickers, the populations engaged in the illicit cultivation of cannabis by giving them the chance to integrate the national economic fabric. Legalization will improve the well-being of populations, bring many young people back on the right track. Legalization will significantly mitigate the harmful consequences of illegal crops on the environment and public health.
