Morocco Urged to Ease Travel Restrictions as Tourism Industry Faces Uncertainty

René-Marc Chikli, president of the Union of Tour Operating Companies (SETO), took advantage of the presence of Adel El Fakir, general manager of the Moroccan National Tourist Office (ONMT) at the general assembly of the EDV in Paris on Tuesday, to launch an appeal to the Moroccan authorities.
Mr. Chikli believes that the authorization of access to Moroccan territory granted to foreign nationals not subject to the visa formality in Morocco and having a confirmed hotel reservation or an invitation from a company is "a breach" that will not be enough to bring travelers back to the kingdom, reports Tourmag. "You have to adopt the same measures as your competitors," he told Mr. El Fakir.
Tourism professionals fear not having Morocco for All Saints’ Day and for the winter season. "The Dominican Republic is doing tests on arrival. We are going to do lobbying work with the EDV to obtain tests at the airport, otherwise we will not have Morocco for All Saints’ Day, and if we do not have Morocco for All Saints’ Day, we will hardly be able to have it for the winter," the SETO president hinted.
In response, Mr. El Fakir recalled that France is Morocco’s leading tourist market and that the current breach is not enough to keep producers working. "I had the opportunity to meet some partners in Paris as well. I understood the situation and I think I have the arguments to influence the decisions. Behind for Morocco, there are 500,000 direct jobs involved. It is important to resume. Morocco needs you," he said.
