Morocco Turns Away French Aid Truck for Earthquake Victims at Tangier Border

The Moroccan customs in Tangier rejected a truck full of donations for the victims of the earthquake in Al Haouz, coming from the Pyrénées-Orientales.
Following the earthquake that hit part of Morocco on September 8, René Didelot, a transporter from Argelès, received donations for the victims. Quickly, a truck and a trailer were filled with boxes and bags of duvets, blankets, household linen, clothes, glasses, hygiene items, etc. Jacques Jourda and Joëlle Eveillard, two elected officials from the commune of Saint-André in the Pyrénées-Orientales, also participated in this outpouring of solidarity, reports L’Indépendant.
The two elected officials then boarded a flight to Marrakech to receive this humanitarian aid which was to be transported to Morocco by René, assisted by a driver, Christian Faillat. But upon arrival in Tangier, the Moroccan customs rejected the truck full of donations. Disappointed, René and Christian returned to the Pyrénées-Orientales. Jacques and Joëlle also had to leave Marrakech to return to their city.
The elected officials and René decided to deliver these donations to the Ukrainian relief association, near Perpignan. Unfortunately, as it was more in search of medicines, it did not accept this aid. René does not give up, however. He contacts the Emmaüs association which finally accepted this donation, which was transported to the Emmaüs Catalonia community, located in Pollestres, and will be distributed to refugees and victims of earthquake and conflict zones.
