Morocco’s Tourism Revenue Soars 173% as Sector Rebounds from Pandemic

As of the end of last May, tourism activity revenues stood at 20 billion dirhams, up 173.1% compared to the same period a year earlier.
The tourism sector has confirmed its recovery, after two years of negative activity due to Covid-19. This is evidenced by the improvement in revenues recorded in the first few months of the year.
In its July economic note, the Directorate of Studies and Financial Forecasts (DEPF) stated that these tourism revenues recorded a recovery rate of 71% compared to 2019, growing 173.1% year-on-year, to reach 20.3 billion dirhams (MMDH) at the end of May, after a 62.4% drop a year earlier.
For the month of May alone, these revenues amounted to 5.7 MMDH, up 1.9% compared to their pre-crisis level, the DEPF specified. This trend is made possible by the measures taken by the government to revive the sector’s activity, the department stressed.
