Morocco Tourism Chief Meets French Travel Industry to Boost Post-Pandemic Recovery

Friday 18 September 2020, by Jérôme

In view of the health crisis context and its impact on the tourism sector, Adel El Fakir, Director General of the Moroccan National Tourist Office (ONMT), traveled to France on Monday and Tuesday to meet and reassure the main travel producers and distributors, as well as representatives of the industry.

"The objective of these meetings was to listen to the needs of these prescribers and to reassure them about the Moroccan destination so that they can reprogram the country in their catalogs for the next seasons," said the head of the Office.

Until now, people wishing to travel to Morocco must have a negative Covid-19 test whose validity does not exceed 48 hours and a confirmed reservation with a hotel or an invitation from a company in Morocco.

The Director General of the ONMT also took part in the general assembly of the Entreprises du Voyage (EDV), with essentially this message: "Morocco remains a safe country. It places the health issue as the ultimate priority for its citizens and visitors, and where the tourism industry is more than ever mobilized to protect its clients by respecting all health protocols, in order to continue to welcome them in the best conditions." In other words, the positive perception of the Kingdom internationally must be maintained.

For the ONMT, it is important to convince tour operators to keep Morocco at the top of their agenda and to preserve seat capacities with airlines.

It should be remembered that France is the main source market for tourists to Morocco, with more than 4.2 million arrivals in 2019, or 31% of market share. Morocco is also the top destination for French travelers outside Europe.
